SALSA Reintroduction in the Works
Having achieved a one-year delay in reimbursement cuts and data reporting, permanently addressing the flawed implementation of the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA) remains a top priority for NILA. We are working with champions in Congress towards the reintroduction of the bipartisan Saving Access to Laboratory Services Act (SALSA), which would repair the current data reporting and rate setting methodology put in place by PAMA, shielding laboratories from drastic future cuts and creating a more sustainable reimbursement model for future years. With the retirement of Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC), a new Republican Senate champion will need to be cultivated. NILA and its partners are actively seeking additional Senate support. We will provide regular updates about the status of SALSA along with opportunities for NILA members to contact your elected officials in support of the legislation.
